“I knew I didn’t want to sit behind a desk for a living,” Calab shared. With that realization in mind, he sat out to start his own landscaping business while still in high school in 2010.

Fifteen years later, his youthful aspirations have turned into a successful reality as Affordable Landscaping and Lighting has grown from a small one-man operation into a trusted local business built on honesty, integrity, and hard work.

With a passion for working with his hands and a satisfaction in creating beautiful outdoor spaces, Calab saw the opportunity to turn his dream into a reality. When he graduated high school, his grandmother offered him money, a generous tradition she bestowed on all the members of the family. But rather than running off to college, Calab bought a lawnmower and trailer and launched what would become Affordable Landscaping and Lighting. 

From the very beginning, Calab understood the importance of building relationships within the community. He took a grassroots approach, going door-to-door to introduce himself to neighbors and to offer his services. 

This dedication and determination not only helped him establish a solid customer base but also led to an impressive reputation built on word-of-mouth referrals.

However, Calab recognizes that he wouldn’t be where he is today without the unwavering support from his wife, Paige. As a local schoolteacher, Paige brought her own set of skills to the business, particularly in social media and marketing. She was instrumental in expanding their reach, allowing Affordable Landscaping and Lighting to attract new customers while maintaining strong relationships with existing ones. She also helped the company conduct payroll and process quotes. Calab has since hired others to perform these tasks, but he is quick to remind everyone that Paige was “the OG.”  

Looking ahead, Calab is excited about the future of Affordable Landscaping and Lighting but his ambitions are very down-to-earth. While he envisions expanding their services, he wishes to continue to uphold the values that have brought him success thus far.
