Back to School Safety
A Message From Chief Dale Armour
As the school bells get ready to ring once again across Nolensville, I want to take a moment to talk to you—as your neighbor, your Police Chief, and a fellow parent—about keeping our kids safe during the back-to-school season.
This time of year, brings more traffic on the roads, more kids walking and biking through our neighborhoods, and the usual hustle around school zones during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups. I’m asking all of us to take an extra moment, to slow down, and to stay alert.
School Zone Safety First
Speed limits in school zones aren’t suggestions—they’re there to protect children. Please obey posted signs and always stop for crossing guards. Children may not always look both ways, so it’s up to us as drivers to be extra cautious.
Watch for Pedestrians and Bikes
As many of our students walk or bike to school, parents, it’s important to talk with your children about using crosswalks, staying on sidewalks, and avoiding distractions like phones or headphones. If they ride a bike, make sure they’re wearing a helmet and using proper signals. And drivers—give bike riders plenty of space on the road.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Courtesy
Please follow your school’s procedures for car lines, avoid blocking crosswalks, and don’t double park. We all want to get in and out quickly, but safety must come first. A few extra minutes of patience go a long way.
Respect the Bus
Never pass a stopped school bus with flashing red lights—it’s not just dangerous, it’s illegal. Watch for children entering or exiting the bus and be mindful of those who may dart across the street.
Increased Police Presence
You’ll see an increase in police presence within Nolensville school zones during the first few weeks of school. Officers are there to support traffic flow, promote safety, and ensure drivers follow the rules. If you see us, feel free to wave or say hello—we’re proud to serve this community.
Let’s Work Together
We all share in the responsibility of keeping our children safe. Please take a moment to speak with your kids about safety, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you see any issues or have concerns.
From all of us at the Nolensville Police Department, thank you for your continued support. Let’s make this school year a great—and safe—one.
