The day will come when Kevin Barbre trades his gauge set and wire strippers for a quiet, retired life. But anyone who knows him insists that day isn’t coming anytime soon. That’s because after 41 years as a master HVAC technician and electrician, he still shows up for every job like it’s Day One: curious, sharp, and ready to get his hands dirty.

“Work is all I know,” Kevin said with a laugh. He’s the proud owner of Barbre’s A/C, Heating & Electrical. “My son, Christian, keeps telling me I’m never going to retire. I will eventually, but I like working.”

Meanwhile, Kevin’s wife, Paula, and daughter, Jennifer, are always behind the scenes, keeping everything in order.

“Being family-owned matters to people,” Kevin said. “For instance, I am out working in Nashville today, but Christian is plenty busy with jobs back in Nolensville. I’ve still got a crew of guys who work for us on the new construction side and bigger commercial jobs, but either Christian or I will still be there every time. My motto has always been that I want to treat my clients the same way I would want to be treated — and that is
like family.”

That uncompromising attention to detail and customer service has always been in Kevin’s blood. Before going into business for himself, he was working on oil rigs in the deep South for many years. When he and Paula had Jennifer, he traded that life in for 12 years working in the maintenance department for a local school district. 

After that, he worked for a short stint as a commercial superintendent before finally stepping out on his own. Basically, Kevin has seen and worked on everything imaginable — making him the perfect guy to have on your side in a pinch when your systems aren’t working as they should.

“Being in business for yourself means you always take work home with you, but there are also plenty of advantages to being in business for yourself,” Kevin said. “We love what we do, and we can’t imagine doing anything else.”
