Bringing Broadway to Mill Creek Middle School: A Spotlight on Mill Creek Musical Theatre’s Fall Production

This fall, students and directors at Mill Creek Middle School brought our community an electrifying rendition of The Drowsy Chaperone Jr., filling the stage with talent, laughter, and theatrical charm. For those unfamiliar, this Tony Award-winning musical comedy has captivated audiences worldwide, including major productions in New York, London, Tokyo, and more. Now, Mill Creek’s production added its own magic to this international favorite, thrilling audiences from across Middle Tennessee.

Led by the visionary Musical Theatre Director Aly Isom, over 150 dedicated students’ hands brought this production to life, putting in over 192 hours of after-school rehearsal. From actor-led scenes to tech crew innovation, every piece of the show reflected Mill Creek’s dedication. Here are some fun production facts:

• Tech-Driven Excellence: Every set, light, and haze effect was crafted by Mill Creek’s own technical theatre students, creating an immersive experience that wowed audiences.

• Creative Directing: Re-imagining the “Man in Chair” role as a “Woman in Chair” and self-described “lonely cat person,” the director invited us into her whimsical world where her own feline friends join the production’s fantastical world.

• Hand-Crafted Details: Each musical poster was uniquely designed by a technical theatre student, showcasing creativity and attention to detail that extended from the stage to the walls of the theatre.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the students, Mill Creek Musical Theatre has become a local sensation, attracting audiences from Nolensville, Williamson County and surrounding areas for matinees and evening shows.
