Grow the Game

You have probably seen our logo around town, or maybe you’ve seen boys walking around with funny sticks; if so, you have probably encountered one of the Crawdad Lacrosse players. The Crawdad Lacrosse Club was initially started in 2016 by Coach Eric Clapp. The club has grown to 85 players and offers playing opportunities for boys from Kindergarten through 8th grade. There has been much growth and success within our club, including the Crawdads taking home their first Regional Championship in 2021 and then again in 2022.

Lacrosse is one of the oldest sports in America and also one of the fastest growing. It is a very fast game played with a long stick and a rubber ball. The players must “cradle” the ball, in which the stick is rapidly rotated, to keep the ball secure in the pocket as the player runs. The players must pass the ball down the field to score on the opponent’s goal. There are 10 players on the field: three attackmen, three midfielders, three defensemen, and a goalie. All the players work together to score and defend against the other team scoring their goal. It is not only a fun sport to play but just as fun to watch!

Earlier this year, Paul Rabil and the Premier Lacrosse League awarded a lacrosse goal to the town of Nolensville as part of their Goals for Greatness program. The purpose of this program was to put a donated goal in each of the 50 states. The goal for the state of Tennessee was to donate to the town of Nolensville, which is located in a centralized park known as Gregory Park. This location was chosen to create more accessibility to the lacrosse game by exposing the kids in our community to a lacrosse goal that is open and available. Our county has purchased another goal to match the donated goal so that we may create a field space to play the game.

Even more exciting for the sport, TSSAA (Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association) unanimously voted to approve boys’ and girls’ lacrosse as a sanctioned high school championship sport for the 2024-2025 school year. This is an exciting opportunity for more visibility for lacrosse in our area. It also creates access to funding that will help to build our lacrosse teams associated with the schools in our community.

If your child is interested in trying out lacrosse, please contact Crawdad Lacrosse for upcoming opportunities. Anyone is welcome, whether you have played the sport for years or if you are picking up a stick for the first time. The spring season will end in mid-May, but we will begin the fall program in August. Another great opportunity to try lacrosse would be to attend the Nolensville High School’s summer camp being offered June 20th – 23rd.
