Interview with NHS Band Director, Benjamin Easley
How many years have you been the Band director at Nolensville High?
I have been here since the very beginning. I was hired in November 2015, and we opened our doors August 2016. Nolensville Band began with 23 members, and we literally started from scratch!
What are your expectations of the 2024 Band?
I expect this group to experience significant growth and progress week-to-week, as we are younger (and bigger) than we’ve ever been. One-third of our performers are new to Nolensville Band this season!
Who are your key Seniors?
Eric Youngkins and Logan Palm serve in the highest student leadership rank as Drum Majors, and Eric shreds an improvised tenor sax solo over the chorus of “Zombie” by the Cranberries. Leah McCulley (Junior, clarinet) and Avery Rhea Montpool (Senior, tuba) serve as Drill Instructors, managing the visual components of the show.
New members of the squad to watch?
With 35% of the uniforms on the field representing new members, just look around and watch them all!
Any thing about this squad, that will make an impact this year? Awards, things like that.
We recently accepted an invitation to fly to New York and perform in the world’s oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day parade, so we are excited to prepare for that March 2025 trip and opportunity! We are also hopeful for a return to Nissan Stadium for a December halftime performance.
What should fans know about this year’s Band?
This is the largest group in Nolensville Band history, and our Fall 2024 production features significantly more drill charts/moves than any previous show…so, get ready to see the performers move a ton!
