More Than Bikes: Building Skills and Community

As part of the Nolensville Police Department’s continuing commitment to community engagement and bicycle safety, Officer Josh Guin is spearheading a new youth bicycle program that builds upon the department’s current e-bike education and enforcement strategy.

Officer Guin routinely patrols Nolensville’s greenways and trails and has been instrumental in our efforts to promote the safe and responsible use of e-bikes. A strong advocate for children’s safety and community involvement, he has developed an especially positive rapport with the young people who ride bicycles throughout our community. It is not unusual to see him playing basketball with young riders or taking time to share water, snacks, and conversation with them.

His newest initiative is a bicycle rodeo designed for children who are still riding traditional pedal bicycles. Using cones, signs, and specially designed obstacle courses, Officer Guin gives participants an opportunity to have fun while learning important safety skills. Children are taught how to control their bicycles, safely navigate intersections and traffic, understand the rules of the road, and become more aware of their surroundings—all in an enjoyable and encouraging environment.

We believe this program will further strengthen the relationship between our police department and the community, particularly with younger riders who may eventually progress from bicycles to e-bikes and, later, to motor vehicles. By teaching safe habits early, we hope to develop more knowledgeable, responsible, and confident roadway users.

Officer Guin has additional ideas for future community events, and the Nolensville Police Department is proud to support his continued outreach. As a Nolensville resident, along with his family, Josh is deeply connected to the community he serves. His efforts reflect how law enforcement, families, and young people can work together to make Nolensville an even safer and stronger community.
