Nolensville Flag Football

An Interview With Flag Football Coach, Timothy VanWormer

How is this year’s team shaping up
compared to last season? What stands out about this group in terms of chemistry, leadership, and overall potential?

We lost a lot of very talented seniors who were very close as a class.   We are very young this year, but we have a group of seniors who are great mentors to them. We have a very difficult schedule this season, so our team is going to face adversity early on and so far they have continued to fight and get better.

Who are a few players fans should keep an eye on this season? Are there returning leaders or emerging young players who could make a big impact?

Caden Joseph and Kailee Divley are returners who we expect to make a lot of plays. Ava Dominique and Avery Bea are freshmen this year who will make a big impact.

What are the biggest strengths of this year’s squad? What style of play do you expect this team to have on the field?

The strength of our girls team this year is they love playing the game.  The rules keep changing each year, so trying to finalize the strategy is an ongoing process.  We would like to play fast and be able to throw the ball around a bit this season.

What challenges will this team need to overcome to be successful? Are there areas where the team will need to grow as the season progresses?

We will have to be able to overcome our inexperience.  We are playing some of the top teams in Tennessee early on and Williamson County teams are some of the best in the state. So we will have to learn to trust the process and do the little things and overcome the early frustrations.

What are your expectations and goals for this season? How do you define success for this group both on and off the field?

My expectation is to get better every day and have fun.  I would define success as that we want the girls to feel valued, supported, and gain confidence.   We want to grow athletically, academically, and as individuals.  If we can do those things, then we were successful.

What makes Nolensville Flag Football special? How does the support from the school and community impact your
program and players?

The Nolensville girls love the game and are very competitive.  There are more opportunities for girls in this area to get better. The Nolensville community does a great job in making sure that opportunities
are provided.
