Run Into the New Year With Nolensville Running Club
Come hit the asphalt running on Wednesday nights with the Nolensville Running Club.
Scott Alexander, creator of the club, hosts weekly runs at 6:15pm at Gregory Park on Johnson Industrial Boulevard. The 3-to-4-mile run is not just for seasoned runners but all paces. Scott encourages everybody to try a run, even if you walk. He promises you’ll turn into a runner in no time. It’s a free club, and all are welcome.
NRC was started by Scott and his wife Kelli in March 2010 and has grown from the two of them to 100 runners who participate.
Scott had just gotten into running and was part of the East Nashville Running Club, but he wanted to start a club closer to home. The first run for NRC was Scott and his wife, and then his brother and his brother’s wife joined. The following week, there were 10 runners who showed, and the club grew from there. The group has not skipped a Wednesday night run since 2010. That’s 14 and a half years of running — rain or shine.
This New Year’s, if you want to pick up running as a resolution, Scott suggests you start running intervals. Over time, you begin to add more minutes of running and less minutes of walking. It’s a fast, efficient, and easy way to pick up the habit of running. Don’t forget to invest in a good pair of running shoes, too.
“Once I crossed that finish line, I became hooked,” said Scott — enthusiastic about running his first marathon.
The club has four different routes that they rotate around each week to keep the trails fresh.
After each run, Scott and his clubmates will go to Mill Creek Brewery to celebrate the run.
NRC is a 501c3 nonprofit, and they help support the Nolensville Food Pantry among other organizations.
Their yearly Rollin’ Nolen 10-mile race raised over $50,000 for the Nolensville High School athletic department. The very hilly route is a challenge for runners and keeps them on their toes. The race starts at Nolensville High and continues down Nolensville Road, eventually taking you onto the back roads of Nolensville, which can be extremely hilly.
The NRC also participates in destination runs to places like Indiana, Arkansas, and Huntsville. This year, the 2025 destination run will be a little closer to home. The club will be running the Tom King half marathon March 1 in Nashville.
