Rising to the Challenge

Fridays are for biscuits and gravy, Saturdays are for chocolate chip pancakes, and Sundays are all about French toast on house-baked challah! House of Bread, located on Nolensville Road, has been attracting locals to the shop throughout the week for its delicious recipes. As the store completes one year of business, it has become the community’s favorite bakery.

“Watching my neighbor tearfully describe how tasting our bread instantly transported her back to her grandmother’s house was a really special experience. That’s when I realized this was more than just bread,” said Tim Witcher, who started the bakery last year in October. 

“Striving to create value not only for myself but for my employees, customers, and the community in which we live motivates me daily.”

The community itself instilled the idea of House of Bread in Tim and his wife, Emily, when they asked, “What type of business should we open?” on a local Facebook page. Tim shared that leaving a corporate job and stepping into the business world was a beautiful transition and one of the best decisions he made.

“My wife Emily and I are both Virginians. We met in business school at the University of Virginia and worked in various corporate roles for nearly two decades. Emily desired to reenter the workforce after several years at home with the kids. After traveling upwards of 50 percent of the time for 15 years, time at home with my girls during COVID spoiled me, and I didn’t want to give that up. Opening a business seemed the best way for us both to get what we wanted.”

House of Bread offers a daily assortment of fresh baked bread and pastries, along with daily breakfast and lunch, which includes a host of signature sandwiches, pastries, soups, and other treats. The bakery also offers catering and weekly home delivery through Market Wagon and Baking Lessons. House of Bread is known for being the only place in Middle Tennessee that offers fresh-baked bread with the convenience of a drive-thru!

As the business continues to grow, Tim expresses his gratitude to the community for all the love and support. “By the end of the year, the business will have donated nearly 2,000 loaves of bread to the Nolensville Food Pantry and other organizations. We are incredibly proud to support our community, and with the continued support of our customers, we hope to do more going forward,” he said. 

“We want our readers to know that they are valuable stakeholders in our business, and we want them to think of House of Bread as their bakery as much as it is ours.”
